The Victoria Harbour Mega Yacht Marina Saga Update
Despite no approvals from Transport Canada on the Victoria Harbour Airport safety and the with no permit from the Minister of Transport to condone the "substantial interference" to navigation that the proposed marina will create, the BC Government has as of June 23, 2011, offered Community Marine Concepts a lease on the waters that is needed to berth the large vessels on what is now the "non motorized zone " in Victoria Harbour. Developer's cost in initial year $2,400.
We Welcome New Paddle Canada Sea Kayaking Level-1 Instructors
Last month, five exuberant paddlers earned certification as Paddle Canada Sea Kayaking Level-1 Instructors during a course I taught with the assistance of Janette Galan. This nationally-accredited course ran from June 30 to July 3 in the pleasant waters around Victoria on Vancouver Island. Most importantly, the qualified course graduates will be passing on safe paddling skills to a broad range of new paddlers, whether it's during a formal course they will be teaching, or during informal discussions that might occur while they are out paddling with friends or on club outings.

Canadian Women Outrigger Paddlers “Down Under”
On June 10th, 2011 a group of local and island outrigger paddlers left our late spring chill out and headed south. “Down Under” that is, to compete in the annual Hamilton Island Cup Outrigger race. Hamilton Island is located on the east coast as part of the Whitsunday Chain. It is a somewhat remote resort locale but each year, outrigger paddlers from all over the world descend on this tiny island to complete over four days in different outrigger events including OC6 Iron and Change races, OC1/OC2 both distance and sprint events.

BC Creeks Need Your Help!
Independent Power Projects, aka IPPs, are being planned here in our back yards - and most of us don't have a clue what has been going on. These creeks include: Big Silver, Shovel, Tretheway and Statlu.
There are over 800 applications for Run-of River projects on B.C's creeks and rivers. These are just four. They've been labelled as green energy, but that couldn't be further from the truth.
Kayaker circles Island in record time
A Thunder Bay, Ont., man has laid claim to the record for circumnavigating Vancouver Island in a kayak after completing the journey in 16 days, 12 hours and nine minutes. Joe O’Blenis, a former record holder for the paddling feat, might have had an even better result had he not encountered equipment issues near Tofino. [...]
