Kayak Fishing Lands the Big Ones!
The fish is a spring salmon that was caught last week off of Neck Point in Nanaimo by Stephen Morgan. It weighed in at over 16 pounds. Caught while trolling using the rod holder and deep line installed in the kayak. As you see from the pictures the modifications have been to add two rod holders, deep line, and have space to place a portable fish finder. The rod holders have to be set forward far enough from the deep line so that you can paddle. Also mounted so that any strike from a large fish would not cause the platform or kayak to pull to the side. The platform will also allow storage of fishing lures, knife, cups, etc without getting in the way of your legs.
We Welcome New Paddle Canada Sea Kayaking Level-1 Instructors
Last month, five exuberant paddlers earned certification as Paddle Canada Sea Kayaking Level-1 Instructors during a course I taught with the assistance of Janette Galan. This nationally-accredited course ran from June 30 to July 3 in the pleasant waters around Victoria on Vancouver Island. Most importantly, the qualified course graduates will be passing on safe paddling skills to a broad range of new paddlers, whether it's during a formal course they will be teaching, or during informal discussions that might occur while they are out paddling with friends or on club outings.

Winter Kayak Trip to “The Cabin”
My son Graham and his girlfriend were visiting on reading break from University. It was Tuesday of last week in mid February, and they decided it would be a good adventure to kayak out to the family cabin in the Gulf Islands. Our cabin is on Ruxton Island, just off of Yellow Point and the weather was quite unsettled.

BC Creeks Need Your Help!
Independent Power Projects, aka IPPs, are being planned here in our back yards - and most of us don't have a clue what has been going on. These creeks include: Big Silver, Shovel, Tretheway and Statlu.
There are over 800 applications for Run-of River projects on B.C's creeks and rivers. These are just four. They've been labelled as green energy, but that couldn't be further from the truth.
